With Chinese New Year less than 2 weeks away, are you busy making sure your house is spick and span? Do you wish you have some help with spring-cleaning? Why not get your little one(s) on board! Here are 3 simple ways on how to get started!
1. Cleaning Game
It is no secret that kids love playing games! One of the most effective ways to get your kids hyped up for cleaning is through games. One example is cleaning Jenga where you select five to six Jenga blocks that you can place tasks for your child to do. When a block with a task is chosen, the person that picked the block will have to complete the task.
As Marie Kondo suggests, let your child be responsible for organizing his/her room. Let your kid have a say in deciding which item will stay and which item will go. Sit down with your child and decide together if an item sparks joy. If not, bid that item goodbye and thank it for the pleasure it had brought to his/her life. As Marie Kondo suggests, “if an item no longer brings you joy, it might bring someone else joy."
3. Use a reward system
Coming up with a reward system speaks to your child. For example, if your child is only allowed to use their iPad for an hour a day, allowing your child to earn iPad time is something you can look to integrate into your household. The more complex the chore is, the longer he/she gets to have iPad time.
Encouraging your kid to start taking ownership of his/her belongings will give him/her a sense of responsibility.
